Recent Reads #3

I have been really busy the past few months so I haven't been able to read as much as I was. But I have been reading a new genre of book that I have been loving.

Love Always by Harriet Evans

We follow Natasha as she finds out what really happened the summer her aunt Cecily died at age 15 when her grandfather gives her part of Cecily's diary at her grandmothers funeral.

The title and cover of this book is very misleading. This is not a chick lit, no comedy, nothing you would expect from first glance. Well they do say don't judge a book by its cover. I couldn't put this book down. I wanted to know what had happened as much as Natasha did. I love that while finding out you actually read her diary and get a great feel of who Cecily was and her personality. So many unexpected turns in this book. I would recommend reading.

Defending Jacob by William Landay

Jacob is being accused of the murder of a fellow classmate. Andy Barber, Jacobs father, is determined to clear his sons name. Andy is a DA and has seen and put away killers before and knows that his son couldn't possible be a murderer. Right?

The style of this book is we follow Andy being interrogated at Jacobs trial with flash backs leading up to that point. I've actually tried to read this book before but I couldn't get into it. I was used to reading easy light read comedies. I wasn't used to seriousness. I gave this book another go and I'm so glad I did. Why didn't you guys tell me crime books were the ones to read! I don't want to give to much away BUT the climax of the book is a gooden. My mum has already started reading it herself. Defo recommend. If you liked Gone Girl you will like this.

The Accident by C.L.Taylor

Sue Jackson is retracing her 15 year old daughter Charlotte's steps to try and figure out why she stepped in front of a bus to try and kill herself. Charlotte is now in a coma and her mum is desperate to try and put the pieces together to help her. The only clue Sue has is a note in Charlotte's diary that mentions keeping a secret that is going to kill her.

I read this book in 2 days. I would of finished in a day but I had to work during the day. Don't you hate it when work gets in the way? I loved and disliked this book at the same time. I found this book gripping and there were plenty of twists however I did figure out the ending half way through. That disappointed me as the book claimed to have a shocking twist at the end. The end I also thought that a bit unrealistic, rushed and to be honest a let down. Would recommend if you are after an easy thriller read.

Just Desserts by Sue Welfare

Harry Bourne is living the life. A wife that does everything for him and a mistress that he can have fun with on business trips. However, the women in his life are starting to believe there is more to life than just Harry Bourne.

I needed something light and easy after all the intense reading I had done. I enjoyed the book but felt that the ending could of been better. I felt it was a slight build up to nothing much. Having said that majority of the book was good with funny elements. If you just want something to pass the time like when you're travelling then this book is good for that.
